Volunteer Process

I am truly inspired by the work you all do at OO, and the positive impact echoed throughout the community; a very beautiful sight to see. I feel simply fortunate to have the opportunity to give back and support OO in any effort.

To begin volunteering for Outdoor Outreach you must first complete our minimum requirements in the Volunteer Process, located below. Outdoor Outreach does not require a minimum time commitment so you can give as much or as little of your time as you wish. However, we do ask for dependability. Be on time, be respectful and be positive.

Step 1: Apply!

To begin, click here to sign up online; and please fill out our volunteerapplication_KG (PDF) and send it to us via fax (619) 237 7612, or mail.  KJ@outdooroutreach.org

Step 2: Volunteer Orientation

Volunteers are required to go through an orientation with our volunteer coordinator covering information on Outdoor Outreach, our programs, volunteer expectations and needs, safety procedures, etc. The volunteer coordinator will also discuss with you your available time, interests and strengths, and how they correspond to the needs of our programs. These orientations are offered monthly and you can check out our event calendar for the upcoming meetings.

Step 3: Background Check

Volunteers need to complete a Live Scan criminal justice background check (done through fingerprinting) prior to volunteering. This can be done at any point during the application process. Please download and print the  Livescan application and bring two copies to the Live Scan office. (Click here for a list of locations.) The cost is typically $10–20, depending on location. Even if you’ve had a Live Scan done recently, we still require this step. Live Scan will notify Outdoor Outreach when the background check has been completed. We do not need your form.

Step 4: First Aid & CPR

We require all the staff on our trips, including volunteers, to be CPR and First Aid certified. You can get started before you are certified, but we ask that you get certified within a few months of working with Outdoor Outreach. The American Red Cross offers classes every day.

Step 5: Become a Volunteer Member (optional)

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Outdoor Outreach volunteer!
While you consider your donation of time, we hope you’ll also consider becoming a volunteer member by making a donation of $20.  When you join, you’ll receive a fabulous Outdoor Outreach t-shirt as well as the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made an impact on the lives of thousands of kids.

Your financial contribution will help us continue to provide amazing outdoor experiences at no cost to the youth who participate. Become a volunteer member today and share the possibility of a brighter future with our youth.
