A Q&A with Outdoor Outreach volunteer Danielle Harvey

What was your first Outdoor Outreach volunteer outing?

I volunteered for a mountain biking trip a few months ago.

Why did you choose to volunteer with Outdoor Outreach?

I love to be outdoors, I know the power and benefits of connecting with nature, and there are many kids in San Diego that don’t have that opportunity.

Tell us about a personal interaction you’ve had with an OO participant. What did you personally learn?

I loved interacting with one participant who told me about all the different languages she knows. I was so impressed and glad that I could learn something new from her!

What is your favorite outdoor activity to do in your own time?

Hiking and mountain biking.

What do you love most about volunteering with Outdoor Outreach?

I love being able to interact with the students from different schools and see them get excited about being outside.

I’m passionate about Outdoor Outreach because…

I like connecting and giving back to my community and encouraging students to continue to find joy outside.

Describe the feeling of seeing a participant discover what they’re capable of.

It’s really great to see students finish a hike or complete a bike ride. They are getting exercise, being with friends, getting outside, and I feel really glad I get to support their experience.
