Outdoor Outreach Announces Second Annual Climb-a-Thon
Climb-a-Thon Will Raise Money for Outdoor Outreach's 2004 Programs
SAN DIEGO, Calif., February 3, 2004 Outdoor Outreach, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality outdoor programs for at-risk youth, today announced that it will hold the 2nd Annual Outdoor Outreach Climb-a-Thon on Saturday, March 13, 2004.
The Climb-a-Thon will be held from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Vertical Hold Sport Climbing Center in San Diego. Registration opens at 9:00 AM.
The goal of the Climb-a-Thon is to raise $10,000, which will be used to fund Outdoor Outreach's efforts in 2004. These programs include taking youth on hiking, rock climbing, surfing and skiing/snowboarding outings, which are led by highly skilled, certified instructors.
Outdoor Outreach is dedicated to providing an opportunity for at-risk youth to gain confidence and self-esteem through participation in outdoor activities. The leaders of the organization believe that offering young people a chance to enjoy responsible recreation in the outdoors brings them experiences that will make positive, lasting changes in their lives.
"The most pressing problem with at-risk youth is that they lack the opportunities to make good choices," said Chris Rutgers, executive director for Outdoor Outreach. "By replacing negative options with positive ones—such as surfing a wave, climbing a mountain, or hiking—the kids learn that positive experiences do exist, which enables them to make healthier choices about their lives."
Individuals and groups interested in participating in the Climb-a-Thon can obtain additional information and register online at http://www.outdooroutreach.org.
