Committed to providing an opportunity for all children to gain confidence and self-esteem through participation in outdoor activities

Outdoor Adventure Club

Outdoor Adventure Clubs are formed in local schools and facilitated by Outdoor Outreach staff and school advisors. Each club typically has 20 youth members, who elect leaders and meet regularly to plan their monthly outings and activities. Through their membership, the students develop strong bonds with their peers that encourage commitment to the club and dedication to creating a positive group environment. They also receive strong, consistent support and structure from their adult leaders, which enriches their club experience and promotes a healthy sense of self and accomplishment. Club members develop as individuals, strengthen their teamwork skills and gain micro-enterprise experience as well, since each club must earn a portion of the funds to offset program costs through fundraising and money management plans. We currently facilitate six Adventure Clubs.

What Participants Are Saying:

"Outdoor Outreach has changed the way I see the world.  It has inspired me to become what I always dreamt of.  The outdoors made me realize the world has a lot to offer and to care for.  The Outdoor Outreach staff has proven to me that people care about kids like me.  The staff taught me to care for everyone around me because they cared about me.  I am so thankful to OUtdoor Outreach for everything I have Learned in life and the outdoors." -Alondra, 9th grad, Lincoln Adventure Club

"I am 17 years old and have been part of the Lincoln High School Adventure Club for two years. Outdoor Outreach is the best program there is for teenagers because it helps get us out of trouble. Before I got involved with Outdoor Outreach I was bad. I was in a gang, got in fights and got high every day. I didn’t care what happened to me. I was doing really bad in school and getting suspended all the time. In the 10th grade my teacher told me about Outdoor Outreach. I started going to the club meetings and met new people. I got really into surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing and hiking. Those are the things that changed my life in a very good and powerful way. Those are the things I never thought I could have done, not a girl that has parents that are druggies and big time gangsters. If I can change like this anybody can. I am so grateful to be a part of Outdoor Outreach, I wish everybody could do it too.” -Lizette, Lincoln Adventure Club
