Volunteer Spotlight

Scott Kessler - Volunteer of the Quarter, Summer 2010

Outdoor Outreach's Summer Volunteer of the Quarter, Scott Kessler, joined the OO team after he was asked to contribute his unique skills toward a new fundraising idea. Scott agreed and with the help of board member Nick Rhea, created the 2009 Puzzle Pursuit.

Scott's love for puzzles combined with his phenomenal craftsmanship and remarkable knowledge came together to produce two exciting and successful Outdoor Outreach fundraisers- The Puzzle Pursuit: The Dresden Codex and The Fugitive. Even with Scott's full time employment with Qualcomm, he contributed endless hours while producing and preparing for these exceptional race events. With all of the time and energy he put into these races, Outdoor Outreach was able to raise $13,000!

The Outdoor Outreach community had a blast solving his puzzles, and we would like to thank him for all of the work he has done for us. It was truly amazing!

Scott on Outdoor Outreach-
I was introduced to Outdoor Outreach two years ago through a friend. He had wanted to put together a new sort of fundraising event and had thought of my unique...errrr...puzzle talents. I jumped at the chance and Puzzle Pursuit was born. I was thrilled to have the chance to do something I love (creating devious puzzles) for such a great cause. Honestly it was the first time I had done any sort of charitable work and I have to say that knowing I was helping OO reach out to help at-risk youth was really a great feeling and helped spur me along on those many long nights of putting the events together. It’s also been great to hear from the folks inside OO about some of the great success stories they’ve had with the kids and I’m thrilled I could be a tiny part of helping out.

I look forward to a continued interaction with Outdoor Outreach and I’d like to throw out a HUGE round of applause to all of the amazing people I’ve met there who make it all happen for the kids.
