Committed to providing an opportunity for all children to gain confidence and self-esteem through participation in outdoor activities

Volunteer Opportunities

Assistant Trip Instructors:  Assistant instructors assist Outdoor Outreach's professional instructors and Outdoor Outreach program staff in facilitating outdoor trips (rock climbing, surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, snorkeling, camping and backpacking).  Volunteers assist with set up and clean up, help teach kids the basic skills and safety precautions they need to participate, and monitor and support the kids during the trip.

** It is beneficial to Outdoor Outreach if volunteers have experience and basic skills in the activity they volunteer for.  We provide basic skills-training sessions for volunteers who lack experience or who would like to become more acquainted with Outdoor Outreach procedures in the following activities: rock climbing, surfing and mountain biking.  These training sessions are required for those who have little to no experience in an activity, and are recommended for those that have a large amount of experience.

Tutors:  Our ALIVE program is in need of tutors to assist the ALIVE program manager in keeping the kids focused and improving their study skills.  The participants meet twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 3 p.m.-6 p.m., and spend about an hour of each session dedicated to homework.

After-School Program Co-Facilitators:  Our programs do more than just offer outdoor activities; the participants also meet after school anywhere from twice a week to once a month.  Our staff members would love dedicated volunteers to become co-facilitators in the after-school programs.  These volunteer positions require a longer and more consistent commitment.  Volunteers applying to become co-facilitators would be expected to attend most, if not all, after-school meetings and weekend trips.

Event Planning and Fundraising:  Outdoor Outreach has various events throughout the year.  As these events come up, we depend a great deal on our volunteers to help coordinate plans and donations.  Our big 2007 fundraiser was an event in Joshua Tree planned mainly by a committee of dedicated volunteers.  We were able to raise $25,000 for Outdoor Outreach!
