Volunteer Process

To begin volunteering for Outdoor Outreach you must first complete our minimum requirements in the Volunteer Process, located below.

Outdoor Outreach does not require a minimum time commitment so you can give as much or as little of your time as you wish. However, we do ask for dependability. Be on time, be respectful and be positive.

1. Apply

To begin, click here to fill out our volunteer application form.

2. Volunteer Orientation

Volunteers are required to go through an orientation with our volunteer coordinator covering information on Outdoor Outreach, our programs, volunteer expectations and needs, safety procedures, etc. The volunteer coordinator will also discuss with you your available time, interests and strengths, and how they correspond to the needs of our programs. These orientations are offered monthly and you can check out our volunteer calendar for upcoming openings.

3. Background Check

Volunteers need to complete a Live Scan criminal justice background check (done through fingerprinting) prior to volunteering. This can be done at any point during the application process. Please download and print the Live Scan application and bring a copy to the Live Scan office. Even if you’ve had a Live Scan done recently, we still require this step. The cost is typically $10–20, depending on location (click here for a list of locations.) There is no need to bring your form to volunteer orientation after you've submitted it to Live Scan; Live Scan will notify Outdoor Outreach when the background check has been completed.

Live Scan staff does background checks on-site at all of our volunteer orientations. Please email volunteer@outdooroutreach.org if you have any questions about the Live Scan process.

4. First aid & CPR

CPR and First Aid Certification is not required. However, after volunteering for 6 months, we strongly encourage all OO volunteers to consider becoming CPR/First Aid certified. To locate a class near you visit, American Red Cross.
