We have hung up our surfboards and wetsuits and traded them in for climbing shoes and harnesses. Every Fall before our rock climbing programs begin, our staff has an annual tradition of taking a weekend overnight trip to Joshua Tree National Park where we prep for program outings in the desert with participants. The trip is a special time that brings the staff together for training and team bonding. This time of year signifies a shift in our programs from summer days at the beach to colorful autumn days in the mountains.

Staff member’s climbing skills and knowledge is put to the test to ensure they can provide the best experience for participants. Program best practices are shared through demonstrations and scenarios that may arise while on climbing trips with youth.

Instructors paired up to practice delivering field lessons while being evaluated and given constructive feedback by senior staff.
